Terms of Service
Last updated: 4 September 2026
These terms govern your use of the SPS Law Group LLP website (spslaw.ca), our online booking system (app.spslaw.ca), our website chat assistant, and any consultation you book through them. By using them you agree to these terms. If you do not agree, please do not use them. Ourย Privacy Policyย explains how we handle your personal information and forms part of these terms.
SPS Law Group LLP is a limited liability partnership practising law in Saskatchewan and Ontario, with its principal office at 806 Victoria Avenue E, Regina, SK S4N 0R6 and an office in Toronto, Ontario. We are regulated by the Law Society of Saskatchewan and, for our Ontario practice, the Law Society of Ontario.
1. No legal advice through the website or chat
The information on our website and the replies given by our chat assistant are general information about the law and about our services. They are not legal advice, may not be current or complete, and may not apply to your situation. The chat assistant is an automated system; its replies are generated by software, not written by a lawyer. Do not rely on anything on the website or in the chat as advice. Legal advice is given only by a lawyer or licensed practitioner of the firm who has been retained by you or is meeting with you in a consultation.
2. No solicitor-client relationship until we agree to act
Browsing the website, using the chat assistant, sending us an enquiry, or booking a consultation does not make you a client of the firm and does not create a solicitor-client relationship. We become your lawyers only when we have completed a conflict check, agreed to act for you, and you have signed a retainer agreement with us. Until then, do not send us confidential documents, and do not assume that any deadline or limitation period is being protected on your behalf. Limitation periods can be short; if you think you may have a legal problem, consult a lawyer promptly.
3. Consultations
3.1 What a consultation is
A consultation is a single meeting, by video (Microsoft Teams) or in person at one of our offices, for the length shown when you book. In it, the practitioner will listen to your situation, give you their preliminary views and explain the options and likely next steps. It is a limited-scope service confined to the meeting itself: unless we agree otherwise in writing, we are not retained to take any step on your behalf after the consultation, and we do not open a file, monitor deadlines, contact other parties or give ongoing advice.
3.2 Who you will meet
Most consultations are with a lawyer. Some immigration consultations are with a Regulated Canadian Immigration Consultant licensed by the College of Immigration and Citizenship Consultants, who is not a lawyer. The practitioner’s name, title and whether they are a lawyer are shown when you choose them at booking.
3.3 Free assessments
Where offered, a free assessment is a short call (about ten minutes) to identify what kind of help you need and whether we are the right firm for it. It is not a consultation and no advice is given during it.
3.4 Confidentiality
What you tell us in a consultation is confidential and protected by our professional obligations to prospective clients, whether or not you retain us.
3.5 Conflict checks
Before any consultation we check for conflicts of interest, which is why we ask for the names of other people or businesses involved. If a conflict is identified we will not proceed; we will tell you that we are unable to act, without giving reasons, and any consultation fee you paid will be refunded in full or the pending charge released. We may also decline to act for any other lawful reason, on the same terms.
4. Fees, taxes and payment
- The fee for a consultation is shown before you confirm and is set by the practitioner you choose. Applicable taxes are added at checkout: in Saskatchewan, GST (5%) and PST (6%); in Ontario, HST (13%).
- Payment is taken at booking by credit or debit card (including Apple Pay and Google Pay) through Stripe. Your appointment is confirmed only when payment succeeds and you receive a confirmation email.
- For some bookings that require a conflict review before we can confirm, your card is authorized but not charged until the review is complete. If we cannot act, the authorization is released.
- A receipt is emailed to you after payment. Consultation fees are for the consultation itself and are not a deposit toward future services unless a retainer agreement says so. Fees paid before a consultation takes place are handled in accordance with the Law Society’s trust-accounting rules.
- Prices are in Canadian dollars.
5. Rescheduling, cancellation and refunds
- Rescheduling.ย You may move your appointment once online using the private link in your confirmation email, to any available time. Further changes can be made by calling the office at +1 866 315 3612.
- Cancelling with 24 hours’ notice or more.ย Cancel using your private link or by calling us. You receive a full refund to the original payment method. Refunds are issued by us within a few business days and can take 5 to 10 business days to appear on your statement, depending on your bank.
- Cancelling with less than 24 hours’ notice, or not attending.ย The consultation fee is retained, because the practitioner’s time was set aside for you. If something unavoidable prevented you from attending, call the office and we will consider your situation.
- If we cancel.ย If the firm has to cancel or cannot proceed for any reason, you receive a full refund, issued automatically within 72 hours if not sooner, and we will offer to rebook you.
- Lateness.ย If you join late, the consultation ends at the scheduled time. If you have not joined within 15 minutes of the start time, the appointment is treated as not attended.
- Free assessmentsย may be cancelled or rescheduled at any time without charge.
6. Your obligations when booking
You agree to provide accurate contact details and to book only on your own behalf or for someone who has authorized you to do so, for example a family member. You must be able to receive email at the address you give, because your meeting link, receipt and private link to manage the booking are sent there. Keep your private link to yourself; anyone who has it can view, move or cancel the appointment.
7. Electronic communications and signatures
You agree that we may communicate with you by email and, if you opt in, by text message, and that documents including retainer agreements may be sent to you and signed electronically. Electronic signatures and electronic records are valid and enforceable under theย Electronic Information and Documents Act, 2000ย (Saskatchewan) and theย Electronic Commerce Act, 2000ย (Ontario). Email and text messages are not fully secure; if you prefer another method for sensitive information, tell us.
8. Client portal
After a consultation, or once you are a client, we may give you a private link to a portal where you can see your appointments, upload documents we have asked for, and view your file’s status. The portal is provided for your convenience; the official record of your matter is our file. You are responsible for keeping your access link private and for the accuracy of documents you upload.
9. Acceptable use
You agree not to misuse the website, booking system, chat assistant or portal. In particular, you must not attempt to gain unauthorized access, interfere with their operation, submit false or misleading information, book appointments you do not intend to attend, use automated tools to access them, or use the chat assistant for anything other than genuine enquiries about legal services. We may suspend access and cancel bookings made in breach of these terms.
10. Intellectual property
The content of our website, including text, design, logos and software, belongs to SPS Law Group LLP or its licensors and is protected by copyright and trademark law. You may view and print pages for your own personal, non-commercial use. Any other use requires our written permission.
11. Third-party services and links
Our booking, payment, video meeting, e-signature and messaging services are provided with the help of third parties, including Stripe, Microsoft, Firma and Twilio, each under its own terms. Links to other websites are provided for convenience; we do not control and are not responsible for their content.
12. Availability and accuracy
We try to keep the website and booking system available and accurate but do not guarantee that they will be uninterrupted, error-free or free of viruses, or that the information on them is complete or current. Appointment availability shown online is provisional until your booking is confirmed by email.
13. Limitation of liability
Nothing in these terms limits or excludes our professional responsibility for legal services we have been retained to provide, or any liability that cannot be excluded by law. Subject to that, to the fullest extent permitted by law, SPS Law Group LLP and its partners, lawyers and staff are not liable for any loss or damage arising from your use of, or inability to use, the website, the chat assistant, the booking system or the portal, or from your reliance on general information provided through them, including indirect or consequential loss. Our total liability in connection with the online services themselves (as distinct from legal services under a retainer) is limited to the amount you paid through the booking system for the consultation concerned.
14. Governing law and disputes
These terms are governed by the laws of the Province of Saskatchewan and the federal laws of Canada applicable in Saskatchewan, without regard to conflict-of-law rules. You agree that the courts of Saskatchewan have jurisdiction over any dispute about these terms or the online services, except that nothing prevents you from bringing a complaint to the Law Society of Saskatchewan or the Law Society of Ontario about the conduct of a lawyer or licensee, or from exercising any right you have under consumer-protection law in the province where you live. Where a consultation concerns a matter in Ontario and is provided from our Toronto office, our Ontario practice is subject to Ontario law and the Law Society of Ontario.
15. Consumer rights
If you are a consumer, you have rights underย The Consumer Protection and Business Practices Actย (Saskatchewan) or theย Consumer Protection Act, 2002ย (Ontario) that these terms do not take away. Where these terms and those rights conflict, your statutory rights prevail.
16. Complaints
If you are unhappy with any aspect of our service, please tell us first: Satinder Pal Singh, Principal, at +1 866 315 3612 or info@spslaw.ca. If we cannot resolve your concern, you may contact the Law Society of Saskatchewan (lawsociety.sk.ca) or, for our Ontario practice, the Law Society of Ontario (lso.ca).
17. Changes to these terms
We may change these terms from time to time by posting the revised version here with a new “last updated” date. The terms in force when you make a booking apply to that booking.
18. General
If any part of these terms is found to be unenforceable, the rest remains in effect. These terms, together with the Privacy Policy and any retainer agreement you sign, are the whole agreement between you and us about the online services. Our failure to enforce any term is not a waiver of it.
